چکیده

Background Characterization of infarct heterogeneity can inform therapeutic strategies for ventricular tachycardia and the management of patients with prior myocardial infarction (MI). Multi-contrast late-enhancement (MCLE) images along the signal-relaxation curve, acquired in a breath-hold ECG-gated scan, offer better visualization of MI than conventional IR-FGRE. However, current MR images either with IR-FGRE or MCLE provide an inferior spatial resolution of 1.6-2.0 mm in-plane with a slice thickness of 5-8 mm in the clinical setting, which is not sufficient to properly delineate infarct heterogeneity. This work presents a three-dimensional MCLE sequence accelerated using variable density Poisson-disk sampling and also proposes a novel reconstruction method using Compressed Sensing with Edge Preservation (COSEP), achieving an in-vivo isotropic resolution of 1.5 mm within a single breath-hold.

Improved characterization of infarct heterogeneity from high resolution T1* maps using compressed sensing and temporal PCA with weighted total variation

Background Characterization of infarct heterogeneity can inform therapeutic strategies for arrhythmia management of patients with prior myocardial infarction (MI). Multicontrast late-enhancement (MCLE) [1] images along the signal relaxation curve, acquired in a breath-hold ECGgated scan, offer better visualization of MI than IR-GRE. A T1 * map and steady state image Mss are then used to quantit...

Improved late gadolinium enhancement imaging of left ventricle with isotropic spatial resolution

Background Recent studies have shown the prognostic value of the infarct border zone of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) images in patients with myocardial infarction [1]. This border zone has also been associated with ventricular arrhythmia [2,3]. The accuracy of the characterization of this area depends on spatial resolution of the imaging. 3D LGE allows improved spatial resolution, especial...

Segmentation Improvement of High Resolution Remote Sensing Images based on superpixels using Edge-based SLIC algorithm (E-SLIC)

The segmentation of high resolution remote sensing images is one of the most important analyses that play a significant role in the maximal and exact extraction of information.  There are different types of segmentation methods among which using  superpixels is one of the most important ones. Several methods have been proposed for extracting superpixels. Among the most successful ones, we can r...

Accelerating cine-MR Imaging in Mouse Hearts Using Compressed Sensing

PURPOSE To combine global cardiac function imaging with compressed sensing (CS) in order to reduce scan time and to validate this technique in normal mouse hearts and in a murine model of chronic myocardial infarction. MATERIALS AND METHODS To determine the maximally achievable acceleration factor, fully acquired cine data, obtained in sham and chronically infarcted (MI) mouse hearts were 2-4...

Highly accelerated 3D myocardial late fadolinium enhancement MRI using ESPIRiT compressed sensing: initial feasibility

Background Myocardial late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) MRI has become a standard clinical exam for characterizing myocardial viability after infarction and for assessing many nonischemic myocardial diseaseses. Typically, a 3D slab covering the myocardium is scanned within a single breath-hold. However, 3D LGE with sufficient resolution and slice coverage requires a long scan time and is challe...
